We, humans, are really intelligent and hardworking creatures when compared to other creatures. That is why we are leading the world now. But up to what extent? We work hard every day and struggle. We also do works that are very risky to a normal human being. Until the word “Robot” came into existence, humans worked in every kind of field like coal mining, military equipment testing, etc by risking their lives just to survive at any cost. But now we have a substitute for this issue and that is “Robotics”. To put it simply, Robotics is the study of making robots. And Robots are those machines that are created by the intersection of science, engineering, and technology which reduces human efforts and helps our lives to be a bit easier. Around the 1950s Robots came into existence and scientists kept on researching and developing Robotics. In the era of the 2000s robotics got a little popular and started to take part in the industries for testing and correcting. But now they have become a real hot topic. Asia is considered to be having a strong grip in the field of robotics. Now let’s see the impact of this Robotic Revolution…….
Uses of Robots:
Robots have various uses in society and that makes them an ideal technology for the future. In the upcoming years, we can almost see robots everywhere like hospitals, hotels, etc. Detailed uses of Robots are:
- Robots help in fighting Forest fires.
- They are made to work in manufacturing plants alongside humans. They are also called co-bots.
- They are used as caretakers for elderly people and also their companions.
- They are used as surgical assistants.
- Robots are used for delivering foods and packages.
- Robots can replace the maids in our houses by doing household works like vacuuming or mowing the grass, etc.
- Robots are used as landmine detectors in war zones.
- Robots are used for search-and-rescue missions after a natural disaster.
Not only these are the uses of robots but there are still many complex uses of them. These are the basic uses.
Robots in Society:
Asia has the highest percentage of Robots in the world when compared to other continents. Out of this, 40% of Robots are used in Japan. As humans, we have some ethics to follow in our lives. The Robots should be aware of such ethics to live alongside humans. Recently, it has been found that Robots behavior is more sophisticated. Scientists also found that some Robots have the capability of self-awareness.
One of the most important predictions about Robots in our society is Unemployment. Though Robots can make our work easier but their presence may cause unemployment to most people.
Future Development and Trends:
Various techniques have been found to develop the robots. One of them is Evolutionary Robotics. This is a technique where some number of Robots are submitted to test and the one that performs the best will be used as a model to generate similar robot generations.
The other technique is Developmental Robotics. This is a technique that traces the changes and development in the robot in some specific areas and corrects it if there is a problem. Recently, a Robot named RoboHon was introduced which acts both like a smartphone and a Robot.
As Robots are developing and becoming more advanced, we need a standard computer operating system which is specially designed for Robots. Stanford University, MIT, and the Technical University of Munich, etc are working on developing the Robot Operating System, an open-source set of programs. Japan is expecting to have full-scale service Robots by 2025.
Facts and Myths: 1- Fact: Fears about a decrease in human-to-human interaction are high.
2-Myth: Robot’s involvement in human society may cause loss of employment.
3-Fact: The manufacturing industry and logistics need to adopt Robots to survive.
4-Fact: Though we have autonomous Robots they are slow at completing their basic tasks.
5-Myth: Robots are expensive
6-Fact: It is difficult to use Robots.
The field of Robotics now has rapid growth and continuous development. Robots have the potential to transform our lives and work practices for good cause. Robots can raise efficiency and safety levels and hence can enhance the levels of services. Thus, we can say that Robots are a great tool to help mankind and improve our lifestyle.
