URL is one of the key concepts of the web, and it expands to Universal Resource Locator. As the name says, this URL can locate any specific webpage on the World Wide Web. URL achieves this with the support of its five components.

Protocol – declares how a browser should communicate with a web server E.g. Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS).
Subdomain – a part of the main domain.
Domain – the name of a website, which is a unique reference that identifies the site on the internet.
TLD (Top Level Domain) – shows the type of entity that a website registers as on the internet.
File Path – refers to a file or directory on the web-server and helps us know which section of the website we’re on.

An URL typically contains this structure and may also contain some more parts such as queries.
