What Engineering has taught me – UmmeAiman. Palegar

As much as I know, engineers are the people who are meant to solve the problems you don’t know exists. An engineer gets excited about the things no one cares about. An engineer can do many things, I agree, but I was the one who was not at all interested in engineering life even though my entire family members are engineers. But unfortunately, my fate dragged me in the engineering field. I was very much interested in the medical field but Alas! I failed and was forced to join engineering. The very first day of college I went with my mom holding her finger, full of anxiety, unaware of the upcoming challenges. But as the days passed, I was very well adjusted and made myself clear that this is only my life and I have to succeed in this field. So, this was the first thing engineering taught me- getting adjusted to whatever comes in life and facing the difficulties boldly.

Engineering changed the introvert me to a new bold and extrovert me who was ready to face all the challenges. We have learnt 45 subjects throughout the engineering of 4 years, all of which were not so easy. Sheesh! Those assignments, we were given a bucket full of assignments and a deadline to submit them. I had to gather all my will power to finally complete and submit the assignments on time because time and tide wait for no man. Working on the projects requires a lot of patience. As I am a software engineer, we learnt to make apps, websites, and many more all of which were a headache to code. The bucket full of errors requires a lot of patience to solve and build the project, this leads to stressful circumstances. But from this, I learnt to handle stress and strain not only in my professional life but also in my personal life. Engineering not only taught about emerging technologies, but also different aspects of life.

Engineering changed the way we see things. Whatever you do, you always get these questions in mind- what, how, why. If it works you wonder how and why did it worked. After all, we are engineers so the reasoning power is heightened. Our minds are stimulated and we get to get our hands dirty to make things dismantle them and fix them too. Bill Gates said –“To be professional engineers always start to study late for exams because it teaches you how to manage time and tackle emergencies”. Yes! Well said, I never studied for exams beforehand, instead studied a night before exams and voila! I passed with a good score and from this I learnt time management and self-belief.

I experienced that failure is the stepping stone towards the success. There is no time to grumble about the failures we face, soon after we fall we try to stand up and never give up. It is well said that scientists dream about doing great things but engineers do them. It is clear that we engineers are those geniuses that not only solve the problems but also try to prevent them. Every engineer should be proud of who he is and as to what he is capable of doing. Now after learning so many things I realize that joining engineering was the best choice and I am proud to be an engineer.

Will likely be back to get more. Thanks
