The IOT is about empowering computers so they can see, hear and smell the world for themselves. A network of Internet connected objects able to collect and exchange Data.

The term “Internet of things” applies to any nonstandard computing devices that connects to Wi-Fi and transmit data. Well –known examples of IOT devices include smart speakers like Amazon Alexa or Google Home, smart watches like the Apple Watch, internet-connected baby monitors, video doorbells, and even toys.

Introduction: In 1999 Kevin Ashton invented the term IOT. Internetwork of physical objects Embedded with sensors, computers, Network i.e. connectivity and actuators that enables these objects to acquire data transform into Knowledge, Intelligent decisions and generate physical actions to manipulate the environment.

Definition: Connecting everyday things Embedded with Electronics, Sensors, Software to internet enabling them to collect and exchange Data.
“The Internet of Things(IOT) is a system of interrelated computing devices, Mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals or people that are provided with unique identifiers and ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-human or human-to-computer interaction”.

Why IOT?
It is ability of things that contain Embedded Technologies to sense, communicate, Interact, Collaborate with other things thus creating a network of physical objects. IOT wants to connect all potential objects to interact each other on the internet to provide secure, comfort life for human. Internet of Things (IOT) makes our world as possible as connected together. Nowadays we almost have internet infrastructure wherever and we can use it whenever.

Working:
An IOT system consists of sensors/devices which talk to cloud through some kind of connectivity. Once the data gets to the cloud, software processes it and then might decide to perform an action, such as sending an alert or automatically adjusting the sensors/devices without the need of user.
IOT devices contain sensors and mini-computer processors that act on the data collected by the sensors via machine learning. Essentially, IOT devices are mini computers, connected to the internet, and are vulnerable to malware and hacking.

Top Internet-of-Things (IOT) Examples to Know:
*Connected appliances.
*Smart home security systems.
*Autonomous farming equipment.
*Wearable health monitors.
*Smart factory equipment.
*Wireless inventory trackers.
*Ultra-high speed wireless internet.
*Biometric cyber security scanners.

Future of IOT: The future of IOT has the potential to be limitless. Advances to the industrial internet will be accelerated through increased network agility, integrated artificial intelligence (AI) and the capacity to deploy, automate, orchestrate and secure diverse use cases at hyper scale.

An exciting wave of future IOT applications will emerge brought to life through intuitive human to machine interactivity. Human 4.0 will allow humans to interact in real time over great distances – both with each other and with machines – and have similar sensory experiences to those that they experience locally. This will enable new opportunities within remote learning, surgery and repair. Immersive mixed reality applications have the potential to become the next platform after mobile – realized through 3D audio and haptic sensations and becoming our main interface to the real world. Bringing future IOT to life will require close synergy between the IOT- and network platforms. This continues to be a key focus area of Ericsson research.
