What Engineering has taught me?
-POOJA N
Hello everyone, I hope everyone are safe . So let’s quickly get into my Engineering life. My friends and my family members suggested me that to not to take up Engineering . I don’t know in what perspective they told but pursuing Engineering was my childhood dream. Finally, it was a dream come true for me. Now currently I’m in fourth year Information Science and Engineering branch from Global Academy of Technology . My goal was not to take up Engineering just for the sake of certificate instead my goal was to excel in programming languages in depth that is what I’m still working on it. To be honest, Engineering has taught me more and more not only in studies but in each and every field. Let me take you people to 3years of my Engineering journey and how I learnt many things from each year.
In first year, obviously almost all were new to me but some of them were my PUC and my School friends as well. My very first day and first class was Mechanical Workshop lab. I went 360 degree around the building and searching where is the lab and finally I found. There I met my new friends. In first year they used to keep Mechanical, Computers and Information Science branch students as one cycle and remaining branches as another cycle. This made me to make more friends. Days passed on we also became close to teachers and teachers were also helpful in all matter. Then came our internals. This was crucial as a beginner but now we got a correct idea how to crack internals. Then came our college fest called “INTERACT” which was held for 3 days. This fest happens to be every year. We were so eager how this could happen. Proudly, our seniors took a step ahead and gave us a chance to be a part of their committee. We were so happy and gave our names to Discipline Committee. There were regular meetings . Finally, INTERACT came, we learnt to organize people, and mainly we learnt how to control the crowd and how to react with people when they were rude to us. They arranged multiple events, DJ nights and musical concert. 3 days just went on without knowing. What I understood from INTERACT fest was to organize things well. Apart from fest, we also gave our participation in our project as well. I still remember my first project was 3-way-switching from electrical subject. We were 4 in a team and we made a live video on our explanations. The best part was that we have won cash prize of Rs.500 and I have published this video in YouTube. By making this video I understood that how to explain in simple words so that a common man can understand without difficulty. This is how my first year went.
Coming to my second year was bit emotional as one of my best friend mom expired. I helped him in studies by teaching him daily for about 1hour in the college and the toughest part for me was to change his mood but somehow I could manage. I didn’t knew I had a very good teaching talent and I used to do research in teaching so that I can excel more in teaching. Syllabus got vast we stepped into our branch , difficulty level was at peak but instead I didn’t lose my self confidence. One day one of my lecturer suggested me to publish a paper. I don’t know what made her to tell this to me but somehow with her help successfully I published a paper on topic “Survey on Bloom’s Filter and its Application” which got published at National Conference. This boosted my confidence because I learnt to publish papers which was completely new to me. Really heart full thanks to her. Then my interest shifted towards music. I participated in various music events and won many awards and I started to publish songs in Star Maker app as well. Friends started calling me as Singer, so my singing level also increased day by day and still now I’m practicing. By the end of second year my bonding towards singing became very strong and eternal. So Second year not only taught me regarding studies or doing projects but also taught me to see inner talent within me.
Next third year came. To be honest, third year made me to take decision regarding studies. I set a goal that I have to pursue MTech in Computer Science. Along with studies music also went on. Like how I did projects in first and second year, in third year also I did project on DBMS subject using advanced java concepts. This project made me to learn advanced concepts in java and along with this I planned to study Python language as well. The best part in third year was when we were in 6th semester , we got promoted without writing an exam. We wrote online internals with full discussion. That was the one we enjoyed a lot actually. Later I understood that without understanding one subject also it could be very difficult understand next semester subjects. Keeping this in my mind, I started to learn Python language through online courses. So this made me to build my self confidence and self learning.
Now currently I’m in final year. Preparing for my placements and eagerly waiting for my college to get started. I hope this final year will give me lot of happiness and memories.
CONCLUSION:
There is a proverb in Kannada “Kaayakave Kailasa” meaning “Work is Worship”. This I indulged in myself and this helped me to succeed to some extent in three years of my Engineering life and lot more to exceed in fourth year. I hope this blog did not made anyone bored. Thank you so much for giving such a very beautiful topics.
